2022 Volkswagen Tiguan vs. 2022 Kia Sportage: Elevated Style, Control and Fun
The redesigned 2022 Tiguan is capturing the enthusiasm of compact SUV buyers. The body fascia and new lines upgrade its style, and it moves along with turbo power and standard 4MOTION all-wheel drive. Whether your family heads out in the snow, rain or shine, the advanced Tiguan is ready.
Some customers are curious to how the Tiguan compares to other SUVs in its class. Here, we compare the Tiguan to the 2022 Kia Sportage.
2022 Volkswagen Tiguan delivers the right power and torque
Each Tiguan features a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine that generates 184 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque. The healthy torque adds response and grip to all wheels. All but one Sportage trim has a standard 2.4-litre four-cylinder that reaches 181 horsepower, but torque reduces to 175 lb-ft. This affects overall performance.
The remaining Sportage trim includes a 2.0-litre turbo that outputs 237 horsepower, but it enters at the top grade level – with a top price. Here, the value justification evaporates for most families.
The Tiguan also has an advantage in seasonal road conditions. All trim models include standard all-wheel drive, but you have to ‘trim up’ with the Sportage.
Also, standard in the Tiguan is an eight-speed automatic transmission that integrates perfectly with the 4MOTION AWD. The Sportage downgrades to a six-speed automatic across all trim levels.
The 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan helps you adapt better to conditions
With the changing seasons, the Tiguan takes pride in offering Driving Profile Selection with Eco driving mode. There are four general modes, including: Onroad, Snow, Offroad, and Custom Offroad. Within the Onroad setting, you can access four additional submodes: Normal, Sport, Comfort, and Individual. These alter operating parameters for drive systems. Each of these are selected on the touchscreen.
Snow mode ensures power transfers in a less aggressive manner to reduce slippage in snowy conditions. Offroad mode features characteristics similar to Snow mode, adding manual control of transmission shifting. Custom offroad opens up individual settings. The Kia Sportage doesn’t offer a mode selection system like this.
The Volkswagen Tiguan also has a much more refined interior. Moreover, it offers optional third row seating to bump up the passenger capacity to 7. The Sportage is limited to 5 passengers.
