At first glance, the Jetta and Jetta GLI look like twins, and they definitely offer many of the same features across their trim levels. These include the distinguished facelift the Jetta has received for 2025, available wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto™, KESSY Keyless Access, heated front seats and steering wheels, and the IQ.Drive safety system. The GLI does add in a few distinctive design tweaks to set itself apart, thanks to some unique badging and a new end-to-end red accent line across the front bumper. Otherwise, you’d be hard pressed to tell these two sedans apart.

Under the hood, however, you see two very different automobiles, because the 2025 Jetta GLI is a performance tuned version of its more commuter-focused cousin. The Jetta GLI upgrades the Jetta’s 1.5L turbocharged TSI engine for a 2.0L one. This gives the GLI a lively 228 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque. Instead of the Jetta’s 8-speed automatic transmission, the Jetta GLI offers either a 7-speed automatic, or 6-speed manual transmission for the performance driver. It’s also built with other driving enhancements such as paddle shifters, mechanical limited-slip differential, performance brakes, and progressive steering. While the Jetta GLI gives you true sports car driving, it does come with a cost; the standard 2025 Jetta is much more fuel efficient. The more serene Jetta gives you an impressive combined estimated fuel economy of 6.9L/100km.
