Volkswagen Golf R

The new Volkswagen Golf R is the ultimate version of the eight generation of the original hot-hatch and one of the best selling sporty compact cars ever.

Even more fun to drive

The new Volkswagen Golf R has been reengineered in order to make it quicker, more capable and even more fun to drive than the previous model. The engine remains the same 2.0L turbocharged unit, but it received tweaks that boosted its output to 315 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, which is 27 more horsepower and 15 more lb-ft. This increased power is directed to the standard 4Motion all-wheel drive system by your choice of either a 6-speed manual transmission or a lightning-quick 7-speed dual-clutch DSG transmission. The AWD system and the electronic differential lock (XDS) ensure you can make to most of the available grip at anytime without losing traction in corners or uneven roads. The suspension was also reworked to provide better handling an a more connected feel. To do so, the spring rates have been increased by 10% in the front and the rear, and the front anti-roll bar has been made 10% stiffer than before.

The Technology

The new Volkswagen Golf R features more technology than ever, with the addition of all of the latest safety, performance and convenience technologies. For example, the new infotainment system incorporates Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in a new capacitive-touch screen which functions like the ones found on mobile devices. This system also includes the controls for the climate control system, which allows for a less cluttered look to the interior. The traditional gauge cluster is replaced by the 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro which is a configurable screen that lets you choose which information you can see at all times. This system also features a R-View mode which allows you to see the rev-counter and two gauges of your choosing which can show the turbo’s boost pressure and the live power output, among others
