The 2022 Volkswagen Golf R is the ultimate version of the eight generation of the Golf and it has more power than the previous version, as well as superior handling. The new Golf R is powered by a 2.0L turbocharged engine that now delivers 315 horsepower (27 more than the last model) and 280 lb-ft of torque when it is paired with the 6-speed manual transmission. With the available 7-speed dual clutch unit that provides lightning quick shifts and a sporty feel, the engine’s torque output is increased to 295 lb-ft. With either gearbox, the power is sent to all four wheels by the 4Motion all-wheel drive system and a new twin-clutch rear differential gives the R torque vectoring abilities that allow it to send 100% of the torque that is applied to the rear axle to the outside wheel in a turn, which has the effect of reducing the understeer and necessitating less steering angle, making it easier and more fun to carve through corners at speed.

The 2022 Volkswagen Golf R benefits from the same changes that have been made to the other Golf models for 2022, meaning that the cabin is significantly different and more modern than before. The dashboard is oriented towards the driver and most of the controls have been integrated in the new central infotainment screen in order to create a sleeker appearance that looks more modern than the previous model. The R’s front seats are sports buckets that provide the grip needed to fly around corners and the comfort needed to enjoy long trips on the highway. The instrument cluster was replaced by Volkswagen’s Digital Cockpit Pro which shows you all of the information you need to know right in front of you.
