The 2022 Volkswagen Jetta has a few tricks up its sleeve when it comes to efficiency
We talked about the new 2022 Volkswagen Jetta in-depth since it launched last month. Among the many changes found in the Jetta, owners will enjoy a redesigned interior and exterior, new colours, and new wheels. That said, the most significant improvement can be found under the hood where the new 2022 Volkswagen Jetta has an improved turbocharged powertrain.
Already the most powerful engine in its segment, the turbocharged four-cylinder in the Jetta goes from 1.4 litre to 1.5 litre with the 2022 model, and sees its horsepower increase from 147 to 158 while torque remains identical at 184 pound-feet of torque. That means that the new Jetta will be even more powerful, more dynamic, and quick to accelerate and pass. What’s even more impressive are the changes made to the fuel economy of the new Jetta.
Higher Fuel Economy
The 2022 Volkswagen Jetta offers much better fuel economy than the previous generation thanks in part to a new, higher compression ratio of 11.5 to one versus 10.0 to one in the previous model. This means that the engine does a better job at extracting the performance it needs out of the available fuel, thus reducing how much fuel is required.
Next, the engine has a modified Miller Cycle which means it can breathe better, specifically by closing its intake valves early. The fuel delivery system has more injection pressure as well, meaning that the temperatures within the cylinders is lower and ultimately creates a much better burn. Add to the mix a Variable Turbine Geometry turbocharger with higher boost pressure and iron powder plasma-coated cylinders that reduce friction, and you have an engine that delivers more power with an improved fuel economy rating.
